PEACE
IN OUR TIME?
Key bound for Munich
Shadow Defence Minister Robert Key MP will be in Munich, Germany,
this weekend at the annual Conference on European Security Policy.
He will be joining defence specialists from across Europe to
hear German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, German Foreign
Minister Joschka Fischer and Defence Minister Rudolf Scharping,
Javier Solana from the EU, French Defence Minister Alain Richard,
Russian Security Secretary Sergey Ivanov, Henry Kissinger from
the USA and others, including NATO Secretary General Lord George
Robertson.
Robert Key said, "Our Government has thrown into confusion
the security of our nation and Europe by signing up to a European
Army which threatens the future of NATO. I need to hear at first
hand those who think this is a good idea - and those who do
not."
Referring to the notorious Munich Declaration of 1938 when
Neville Chamberlain flew back from a meeting with Hitler in
Munich and said he had had a piece of paper signed by the Chancellor
which would bring 'peace in our time', Robert Key said, "Back
at Heathrow, I won't be waving pieces of paper nor white flags.
We may not be under threat of invasion, but the new battle of
Britain is for the heart and soul of our country and how we
defend it."
