Magistrates Court Crisis

Salisbury MP, Robert Key, has demanded that the Government address the crisis in custody cases at Salisbury Magistrates' Court with the utmost urgency. Responding to the announcement from Wiltshire Magistrates that all custody cases from Salisbury must now be heard in Chippenham Magistrates' Court,

Robert Key said, "I wrote to the Minister on 3rd July drawing her attention to this impending crisis. Now it has happened - and the Government appears to be unconcerned and unprepared. "This situation is unacceptable.

The implementation of the human rights legislation was planned three years ago and the Labour Government knew perfectly well what the circumstances would be.

On behalf of the whole Salisbury community I have asked the Minister to let me know urgently what action she will now take to ensure the smooth administration of justice in Salisbury."
