The battle for Death Valley goes on…

Robert Key MP will this week present the House of Commons with a Public Petition from angry residents demanding the reinstatement of the binned A36 Wylye Valley Relief Road. Ministers announced their decision to reject the bid for funding this scheme in November last year.

The petition, which has been signed by more than 400 people, calls on the House of Commons to urge the Government to reverse its decision and include Stapleford in a new bypass project; and meanwhile to install urgent traffic calming measures including new light controlled pedestrian crossings in Stapleford, Stoford, South Newton and Wilton, and to reduce the speed limit to 20 mph through each village.

Robert Key said, “The quality of life of hundreds of people is blighted by traffic on the A36 and this Government has turned its back on them. Wiltshire County Council’s recent announcement that £275,000 has been allocated to support a traffic management scheme is a step in the right direction, but by no means a solution. This is not an alternative to a relief road, and it is important that we continue to fight the Minister’s decision.”
