Robert
Key joins Winston Churchill Memorial Trust
“A
great honour to spread the word”
Robert Key has accepted an invitation to join the Council of
the Winston Churchill memorial Trust. When Sir Winston died
in 1965, a Trust was established by public subscription to
fund Travelling Fellowships in his memory. Around 100 awards
are made each year to British Citizens, men and women from
all walks of life and of any age, background or occupation,
to travel for 4 to 8 weeks to enrich their understanding
of the people of the world as they undertake a project that
will enrich their contribution to their community when they
return.
Robert Key said, "I will be helping to select 100 people
to share around £500,000 for their air fare, daily living
and local travel. I hope very much that people from Wiltshire
will see the value of applying - but they will be in competition
with folk from all over the UK.”
“This is a
wonderful way of celebrating the achievements of a very great
Englishman whose example is every bit as relevant
as it was when the Trust was established nearly 40 years ago.
Winston Churchill made a great impact on my life in many ways
and I am thrilled and privileged to help keep alight the beacon
he lit."
The Patron of the Trust is Her Majesty The Queen. Other Council
members include Mr Randolph Churchill and Sir Roger Bannister.
