Key MP urges his constituents to support local Broadband
campaigns
Salisbury MP Robert
Key today called on local people and businesses to make sure
they do not miss out on the ‘huge opportunities’ presented
by high-speed Broadband communications.
Mr Key is urging
people who are interested in getting Broadband to express
their interest through BT’s Broadband registration
scheme. The scheme, launched around 20 months ago, helps BT
direct investment to where there is a proven demand. It costs
BT on average up to £200,000 to upgrade an exchange.
The exchanges at Alderbury, Amesbury and Wilton were broadband
enabled recently after reaching their trigger levels. The exchanges
at Hindon, Middle Woodford, Tisbury and Whiteparish will go
live over the coming months.
Mr Key urged businesses and households in other exchanges
in Salisbury with trigger levels to register their interest
to join them.
Mr Key said: “I am very keen that Broadband technology
should be available throughout my constituency. A faster, more
reliable internet access will benefit local businesses and
residents alike. We have already seen how the internet has
changed people’s lives with study, entertainment and
shopping all available. Broadband makes all of these things
easier as well as improving competitiveness of businesses.
Let’s make sure ALL of Salisbury has this opportunity.”
“To make sure exchanges are upgraded we need as many
people as possible to register their interest. It’s very
simple to do, just go to BTs website, http://www.bt.com/btbroadband/
register/ns_register_intro.jsp.
You’ll be able to see how many people have registered
their interest in your exchange area and other information
about the scheme. I would encourage everyone to take this opportunity
to demonstrate demand for Broadband in Salisbury.”
“I know there
are local people running campaign groups to bring Broadband
to their communities, and I would like to
commend them for the work they are doing. I would be happy
to support their activities in any way I can.” |
