New Dean of Salisbury

The appointment by the Prime Minister of Canon June Osborne, Treasurer of Salisbury Cathedral, as the new Dean, has been warmly welcomed by Salisbury’s Conservative MP, Robert Key. Robert is a son of the late Bishop Maurice Key. He is a member of the Cathedral Council and the Salisbury Diocesan Synod. Robert was brought up in Salisbury Cathedral Close and attended the Cathedral School.

Robert said, ‘This is an excellent appointment. June is an outstanding priest and leader who has already contributed substantially to the life of our cathedral and the wider church. Her vision for the future is exciting. By her learning, common sense and sound judgment, and with the support of her family, I believe she will lead the life of the cathedral with distinction.

‘June is the first woman to be appointed Dean of one of England’s great medieval cathedral foundations. This marks an important milestone in the life of the Church in England as well as the Church of England. June will help ensure that our Church moves forward with confidence in the direction inspired by Archbishop Rowan Williams.’
