New Commons Job for Robert Key

Salisbury MP Robert Key has been chosen as Chairman of the House of Commons Information Committee. This all-Party Committee, with a Labour majority, is responsible for advising the House of Commons on the provision of all information technology services, including computers, network systems, e-mail facilities, telecommunications and the Parliamentary website as well as the services of the Commons Library and the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology.

Robert said, “Political life is moving on rapidly. We depend more and more on new technology and communications. MPs and their staff at Westminster and in our constituencies must be able to rely on the best kit and systems.”

'This is certainly an honour - but it brings with it a substantial workload. My mission is to deliver for Parliament the best IT in the democratic world and to realise the ambitions of our Library staff to transform our tried-and-tested research and statistical services into a beacon system that will be the envy of other libraries.”

“I see this work as enabling and empowering Parliament to serve our constituents better and to hold the Government to account.”

Robert Key remains a Member of the Select Committee on Science and Technology.
