Salisbury Fertility Centre in the news

Robert Key MP will be visiting the Fertility Centre at Salisbury District Hospital on Friday morning, 21 November. He will be briefed by Shaun Fountain, head of the Unit and will meet staff and patients.

Rob Key said, ‘There are two reasons for my visit. First, the Salisbury Fertility Centre is one of the most successful in vitro fertilization (IVF) units in the country, with a 35% pregnancy success rate. This has brought joy to scores of couples.

‘Secondly, the House of Commons Select Committee on Science and Technology, of which I am a Member, is starting an enquiry into human reproductive technologies and the law. Besides learning how our Salisbury Unit works, I need to know how medical staff and patients view the legal and ethical issues that are of concern to many people.

‘I played an active part in the passage of the 1990 Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act. Both attitudes and technologies have moved on and Parliament must reconsider the legislation.’

The Select Committee will shortly be announcing details of an open ‘e-consultation’ process which will give the public the opportunity to input directly to the Enquiry.

Dr Shaun Fountain is based at Salisbury District Hospital. He can be contacted by e-mail at info@salisburyfertilitycentre.co.uk
