Discrimination against diabetic drivers

The House of Commons Science and Technology Committee has recently published a report that looked into the whole issue of diabetes and driving licences. As a result of this report, the Government announced in May 2000 that, subject to advice from the Advisory Panel on Diabetes and Driving, it intends to review its arrangements and that it will look at the possibility of greater scope for individual assessment.

The Conservative Party awaits, with interest, the results of the Government's review and, as soon as Parliament resumes, will put pressure on the Government to ensure that the results are published as soon as possible. I would like to stress, however, that I and the rest of my colleagues in the Party believe that the priority must always be the safety of all road users.
