WILTSHIRE CONSTABULARY

Dear Mr Key,

Re Shaftesbury Rd Wilton

Thank you for your letter of 14th January I apologise for the delay in replying. I have read the comments in the attached correspondence from ********** and would like to clarify a couple of matters for you.

We do not fail to realise the true situation regarding the speed of vehicles. The figures I quoted you are from electronic survey devices operating over a 7 to 10 day period, for 24 hours a day and record every individual vehicle speed. We then use this to analyse the flows and abuse rate. I suspect the survey he refers to being carried out by officers in fluorescent clothing standing out like beacons are in fact my staff carrying out speed enforcement checks.

I understand the frustration felt but I have to use the resources I have to deal with priority sites where collisions are occurring. We have and will continue to enforce the speed limit in Shaftesbury Rd when possible. I have written to ********** to invite him to view the figures and discuss the issue with myself and PC Colwill my Traffic Management Officer.

I hope this explains our position but if you wish to speak to me I will assist you with any information you may need.

Yours faithfully

P A WILLIAMS
INSPECTOR
TRAFFIC MANAGER
