Re Yr: RK/SJA/Cons/Downton

Dear Robert

B3080 TRAFFIC THROUGH DOWNTON

Thank you for your latest letter of 28 October together with copy letter from Desmond Swayne MP. This support is much welcomed and all helps to bring pressure to bear on Hampshire C.C.

I am not totally clear how Hampshire "will liaise with Wilts C.C. on the way forward" but over the next few days I should have a better indication of just how serious H.C.C. are in coming to a common solution. The next steps are:-

  1. An informal meeting between myself and Ken Thornber this coming Thursday evening in Winchester which will allow me to emphasise the political scenario on this side of the county boundary and the extreme danger on not doing anything.
  2. A formal meeting has been requested by myself between Officers and Members of both authorities before year-end to explore the options and hopefully decide the way forward. I have yet to hear of a date but am pushing and will keep you informed.

Meantime I am still receiving letters from other residents on the B3080 raising the same concerns and when possible I make a point of visiting them to outline where we are in consultation. I sense that local people do recognise that we are seriously trying to help and they accept that it is a long drawn-out process.

Regards

Julian

CC Councillor Fleur de Rhe-Philipe
Councillor Margaret Peach
