Highway Matters
Skew Bridge/Lower Bemerton I refer to your
letter dated 7th October 2004 in connection with the above.
Whilst
I concur with your comments regarding the inconvenience
caused to local residents during the course of the bridge
refurbishment works, they were of course inevitable under
the circumstances.
The problems associated
with the works at Skew Bridge through Quidhampton and Lower
Bemerton have been noted,
and it
is because of this and other factors that Lower Road
has been placed on the Non-Principal
Roads Surfacing programme for 2005-2006 subject to the
available
funding. The budget for next year is currently being
reviewed. It is recognised
that these roads are undeniably in less than optimum
condition in parts due mostly to the age of the surface,
combined with the poor ride presented
by numerous service trench reinstatements.
A proposed
traffic management scheme intended to reduce traffic speeds
and help deter rat running traffic through
Quidhampton has been designed and agreed with Environmental
Services Department's
Joint Transportation
Team, Lower Road Working Group and Quidhampton Parish
Council.
The scheme has been added to a pool of similar schemes
for other locations in the
Salisbury and Wilton area that have been assessed by
the Salisbury Transport Joint Committee against the
objectives of the Salisbury Transport Plan
to enable a priority for funding to be established.
The scheme is No.2 on the list of local traffic management
schemes on
the Salisbury
Transport
Plan - Draft Priority List, a copy of which I have
enclosed for your information.
I hope that this
information is of assistance to you.
Yours sincerely
