Robert Key is voting in Parliament against the Lisbon Treaty which seeks to introduce the failed European Constitution by the back door. He is also demanding a national Referendum on the Treaty.
Robert said, " I have read the Treaty of Lisbon. It is a dismal document, with 294 pages of amendments to existing Treaties and Protocols, and pages of declarations by individual countries. This Treaty hands over from the UK to the EU swathes of policy including immigration and judicial affairs as well as abolishing our veto in over fifty policy areas.
"All the major Parties promised a Referendum. Only the Conservatives - plus a few brave Labour Members - are now demanding one. We have been debating- and voting against - the Treaty for two weeks. It will take four weeks to finish what is a cursory and truncated consideration of the issues.
As usual the Euro-Federalist Liberal Democrats are sliding away from their promise. They say they haven't decided which way they will vote on the amendment demanding a Referendum, and instead they want a referendum on whether or not we should be in the EU. That is not the issue. It is a legitimate, separate, issue - but as usual when LibDems don't like the answer, they change the question." |
